Tell us about yourself, hobbies, interests, family, job, etc.

I am 35, married, mom of two kiddos. I have a 7yr old daughter and 3yr old son. I have been an ER nurse for the past 10 years. I love anything to do with the outdoors as long as it is warm. Love to travel. If I could convince my husband to move, we would be living right on the ocean. I also love playing rec volleyball and golfing.

How long have you been doing CrossFit?

I have been doing CrossFit since 2017 with a break after I had my second child.

What do you remember about your first CrossFit experience?

First class I ever attended was with a few other nurses I worked with and had an absolute blast. They had been talking about CrossFit for months, so figured I didn’t want to be left out. Next day I was sore in places I didn’t even think were possible and could not wait to go back.

What do you most enjoy about CrossFit?

I enjoy CrossFit because every day is different. I like that you go in and everything is planned and I just need to do the work. I appreciate how everything can be modified for you level of skill and safety, I was attending classes up until 2 days before I gave birth to Cruz.

What do you most enjoy about being part of Light the Fire CrossFit family?

I enjoy LTF because everyone is friendly and welcoming. If you attend 830, you will know I love to socialize. Being able to get a great work out in and have some laughs is one of the biggest reasons I love this gym.

What motivates you to come to the box?

Socializing! haha…  My motivation is I want to stay healthy and active for as long as possible. Recently on vacation we took a 5 mile hike, which my 3yr old insisted he ride on my back the entire time and it was mostly uphill. I highly doubt it if I did not do CrossFit that hike would have been miserable, instead it was a good work out.

What is you most recent PR/biggest accomplishment?

Most recent PR would be clean and jerk. My goal was 95, I got 115. I am a sis when it comes to overhead lifting, so I was pumped.

What is your favorite wod, lift, movement, or skill?

Favorite movements include burpees, lunges, and box jumps.

What is your least favorite wod, lift, movement, or skill?

Least Favorite would be anything heavy that I have to put over my head. I may be a psychopath and love burpees, but I am a sissy when it comes to heavy over head lifts. Also wall walks are for the birds.

What is your current CrossFit goal?

My goal is to keep improving and try to make as many classes a week as I can.

What would you tell a newbie or someone that has never done CrossFit?

For newbies my advice is just try it. I was on the fence forever with the girls at work, but once I did I loved it. I think a lot of push back or worry people have is they cannot do certain things. Which is why I have enjoyed CrossFit so much, since everything can be scaled or modified to fit the level you are at.

Have you had a life changing experience since starting CrossFit?

Nothing majorly life changing, but it has made me appreciate the importance of exercise and staying healthy. Especially, with the things I see at work gives me good incentive to get to class in the morning.

How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the box?

CrossFit has helped in numerous ways for me outside of the box. I love that I can be active with my kids, play rec ball, and rearrange the entire house all by myself if I am feeling crazy. It has also made my job much easier. There is a lot of manual labor that goes on in the ER.
