Al and I have been married for twenty-nine years! We have two wonderful children and one very spoiled cat. I work at Monroe County Community College as an Administrative Assistant to the Director of Campus Planning. I enjoy running, yoga, reading, and spending time with my family and friends. I love good coffee and top-shelf margaritas! Al and I enjoy spending time on the beach for “Sunday Funday” with our neighbors and friends. I recently became an Independent Consult for Lemongrass Spa products – bringing fresh, clean, natural skincare & makeup to those who want it. I also completed 25 push-ups a day challenge during the month of January and raised $500 for the American Cancer Society. (That’s 775 push-ups total)
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I’ve been doing CrossFit for about 2 years now.
What do you remember about your first CrossFit experience?
What I remember from my first CrossFit experience is that I loved it right away. I wanted to start lifting weights but wanted to do it right. After my first class, I knew it was exactly what I was looking for. I also remember the night of our first foundations class. Al and I went to Northside for burgers and beers to celebrate his birthday right before class. We both regretted that decision and came very close to losing our cookies that night.
What do you most enjoy about CrossFit?
I enjoy the people in our CrossFit Community the most. Everyone is so positive and encouraging at whatever level you’re at. I don’t lift as much as other women but the fact that I’m trying and improving seems to be the only part that matters.
What do you most enjoy about being part of Light the Fire CrossFit family?
I enjoy being a part of the Light the Fire CrossFit family because they’re positive, encouraging, caring and helpful. They truly want you to excel at your goals.
What motivates you to come to the box?
I’m motivated to come to the box so I can stay fit, keep improving, meet goals and see friends.
What is your most recent PR/biggest accomplishment?
My most recent PR/biggest accomplishment is that I did a double under on Tuesday, February 23rd. I rang the bell and everything! My biggest accomplishment is getting out of my own way.
What is your favorite wod, lift, movement, or skill?
I like anything we do with weights. Barbell, dumbbell, or kettlebell – I like lifting and getting stronger.
What is your least favorite wod, lift, movement, or skill?
My least favorite lift is the overhead squat. I just don’t have the flexibility in my shoulders and ankles to get into this position. I will though – someday. (I’ll keep watching Christina!)
What is your current CrossFit goal?
My current CrossFit goal is to get better and stronger. I’m really excited for the new Level Method program Bill’s putting together. I think it will help me track progress and set realistic goals.
What would you tell a newbie or someone that has never done CrossFit?
I would tell a CrossFit newbie that everything we do can be modified for all levels of fitness.
Have you had a life changing experience since starting CrossFit?
I have had a life changing experience over this past year with the coronavirus pandemic. We have all had to do things this past year that we never thought we would ever have to do.
How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the box?
CrossFit has definitely affected my life outside of the box by giving me more confidence to try things I didn’t think I was capable of doing before. I would just assume I couldn’t do certain things and not even try. This limiting thinking is not the way I want to be. So now I’m really putting myself out there and trying to be the best version of myself.
