I work as a registered nurse. To say these last few years have been challenging, would be an understatement. Working throughout the pandemic was both physically and mentally exhausting. I’m so thankful to have found CrossFit to help me cope. I’m the oldest of 4 children, and I have 4 children. I’m beyond proud of each one of them. I spend a lot of time scuba diving and even volunteer at The Toledo Zoo cleaning the shark tanks!
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I started CrossFit in June 2021.
What do you remember about your first CrossFit experience?
I can barely remember what I did yesterday🤣. I remember having no idea of what CrossFit was about. I also remember how nice everyone was and how encouraging everyone was/is.
What do you most enjoy about CrossFit?
I really like how the WOD’s are setup. There is absolutely no guessing or wondering what to do next. Each movement is thoroughly explained and the coaches are really good with providing instruction, when needed.
What do you most enjoy about being part of Light the Fire CrossFit family?
I consider each person a friend. I try and remember everyone’s name and connect with them on some level. The LTF family has helped me in ways they will never know.
What motivates you to come to the box?
The escape from reality. I get one hour to just focus on bettering myself. I often forget about the realities of life and get into another zone, almost spiritual.
What is you most recent PR/biggest accomplishment?
I’ve been working within the orange group for about a year. Recently I’ve been sprinkling in some of the blue activities, mainly increasing the recommended weight. I’m definitely feeling stronger and even have some arm veins popping out!
What is your favorite wod, lift, movement, or skill?
I had never got on a rowing machine before LTF. Shortly after joining, I purchased my own for the days I’m not able to get to the box. It’s such a great workout.
What is your least favorite wod, lift, movement, or skill?
Burpees and running are equally nasty.
What is your current CrossFit goal?
To get to the box at least 3 days a week and complete the WOD to the best of my ability.
What would you tell a newbie or someone that has never done CrossFit?
It will be intimidating at first. But you have to get uncomfortable to get comfortable. There are still days that I struggle with certain lifts. But the coaches are always helping me get back to proper technique.
Have you had a life changing experience since starting CrossFit?
My mind, body, and soul are better since finding CrossFit.
How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the box?
I am more sure of myself and proud of my accomplishments. I’ve always been a firm believer that each person is in control of their personal health. Although I haven’t always been a great example for my children. Being a nurse, I’ve been exposed to COVID more times than I can count. It even cycled its way throughout my household, twice. Yet, I have never had a positive test. I believe I have acquired CrossFit immunity!
