Tell us about yourself, hobbies, interests, family, job, etc.
I am a Financial Advisor at Wells Fargo Advisors. I am married to “Mr. Cristina” Nick Phillips and we have a 2 year-old daughter Palmer. When I am not working or being a slave to a 2 year-old, I enjoy hiking, camping, cycling, swimming, and hanging out with my extended family.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
I am an original member of Light The Fire, I joined the day it opened August 2014, 9 years!
What do you remember about your first CrossFit experience?
I remember thinking, Man I am not as fit as I thought I was! CrossFit was and all is a very humbling sport.
What do you most enjoy about CrossFit?
I enjoy how I still surprise myself. There are days when I walk in thinking this is not my workout and then I do better than I thought.
What do you most enjoy about being part of Light the Fire CrossFit family?
Light The Fire is Family to me. I love walking in the door and seeing my brother/sister-in-law and their girls. I love working out with my sister (when she shows up) or the friends I have made over the nine years. The friendships I have made are being instilled in Palmer when we get together outside of the gym for playdates or date nights.
What motivates you to come to the box?
It’s my me time. I have such a busy life, this is the one hour of my day that is for ME!
What is you most recent PR/biggest accomplishment?
My ring muscle-up. I know it was ugly, but I am working on it.
What is your favorite wod, lift, movement, or skill?
I have a lot, most recently bar muscle-ups. But I have always loved box jumps, power cleans, burpees, and kettlebell swings.
What is your least favorite wod, lift, movement, or skill?
Anything overhead, it’s my weakness. Overhead squats, and HSPU.
What is your current CrossFit goal?
I want to get better at my ring muscle-ups. Working on that with the coach.
What would you tell a newbie or someone that has never done CrossFit?
Just DO IT! The CrossFit name can be very intimidating but it’s really not bad. Every move can be modified. The hardest part is walking through the door, but once you do you won’t regret it.
Have you had a life changing experience since starting CrossFit?
CrossFit helped me get through a high risk pregnancy. Billy and Katie helped me every step of the way. Giving me options to modify workouts, being there when I was put on bedrest and Katie helped me postpartum. My fitness level would not be where it is today without the help I received.
How has CrossFit affected your life outside of the box?
CrossFit makes chasing after a 2 year-old easier. I am able to play and not miss a moment with her. I continue that. CrossFit also helps make all my other outdoor activities easier.
