September Athlete of the Month

Tell us about yourself, hobbies, interests, family, job, etc.
We just moved to the area. We have 2 girls, 3 and 6 months. We used to love hiking, camping, hunting, but lately home renovations have taken up most of our free time.

How long have you been doing CrossFit?
3 months though I had done CrossFit before I got pregnant with my 3 yr old

What do you remember about your first CrossFit experience?
I was actually stationed on the Stennis at the time and doing a west pack tour when some friends on the boat brought out a barbell and some weights they’d picked up. I had no idea that was CrossFit. After we returned state side I joined a gym where I ended up meeting my husband

What do you most enjoy about CrossFit?
The atmosphere, the people, the sense of community and the constant strive to become a better version of yourself. It is always challenging and constantly changing

What do you most enjoy about being part of Light the Fire CrossFit family?
The coaches and the members are always friendly and encouraging

What motivates you to come to the box?
The people. I know I have to workout and coming to the gym doesn’t feel like a chore. It is fun and it allows me to start my day right

What is you most recent PR/biggest accomplishment?
I have so many that it’s hard to say. When I started 3 months ago I couldn’t get my head over a pull up bar or do double unders or toes to bar. Aside from starting to lift heavy I have found myself improving at the other skills and that is motivating

What is your favorite wod, lift, movement, or skill?
I probably like cleans and squats the most

What is your least favorite wod, lift, movement, or skill?
BOX JUMPS!!

What is your current CrossFit goal?

My long time goal is to do a muscle up, but realistically I’m probably far from that. I’d like to get better at cardio

What would you tell a newbie or someone that has never done CrossFit?
Try it, you’ll be hooked! If you want to workouts that will keep you well rounded without taking 3 hours at the gym, this is it. The community is what keeps me coming back to it
